Tell us a little about yourself! Age, hobbies, passions, where you grew up, where you live now, and any other fun facts!
I am 26. My hobbies include: cooking, baking, traveling, attending music festivals and concerts, and spending time with my dogs and family and friends. My passions include: dancing (I have been dancing for 24 years). I grew up in Albany Park city, I grew up in Chicago, and I currently live in Wheeling, IL. A fun fact about me is I have performed for WGN News, FOX news, and for Macy’s Opening Performance for the Thanksgiving Parade.
What were you doing professionally before bootcamp?
Prior to the bootcamp, I was working as a Project Manager.
Tell us why you enrolled in Coding Dojo? Were you unhappy with your current role? Yearning for a change in career path?
I enrolled in Coding Dojo because I felt like I wanted to do more within the data world. I was dealing with different projects on a daily basis and one of my projects had to do with data analysis and I kept thinking, “what if we did this with the data?” or “what if we use this data to understand what will happen in this scenario?” And I wanted to do more with that aspect.
Why did you choose Coding Dojo over other bootcamps?
I chose Coding Dojo because the team was so proactive in helping me get to where I needed to be within Coding Dojo. I reached out to Alumni and they were all informative with the pros and cons of going there (and there were more pros than cons).
What were your thoughts going into bootcamp? Were you nervous? Excited? All of the above?
I was definitely nervous. I had very little knowledge of Data Science, Python, and Machine Learning.
Did you face any obstacles in bootcamp? If so, how did you overcome them?
Yes, I overcame them by dealing with my time management accordingly and reaching out to TAs, other students in my cohort, and teachers where I needed help.
What was it like during your first few weeks in bootcamp? What did you enjoy? What did you struggle with?
I enjoyed it so much. Learning about data cleaning and making sure I understood what I was learning made it so much fun.
What advice would you share with others considering bootcamp? What about those currently in bootcamp?
My advice would be to make sure you communicate with your TAs, other students in your cohort, and teachers. We all struggle, but the people around you are always there to help when needed.
Do you have any fun memories to share about your time in bootcamp?
Yes! I enjoyed my first stack with my first teacher. We had a group coding session and she helped us out a lot and ensured we all knew and understood what we were learning.
What was your favorite stack, project, or module to learn? Why?
My favorite stack was Advanced Machine Learning. It was my favorite because you really get to understand the deep end of what data science is about.
As graduation approached, how confident were you in your new skill set?
I was very confident.
Aside from credentials, what else did you leave bootcamp with? (soft skills, motivation, confidence, etc.)
I definitely left the bootcamp with some friends and more motivation and confidence in myself and my skills.
How did the job hunt go? Where did you end up working?
It went well! I am still in the same company, but was promoted to a Senior Data Analyst
What did it feel like to receive your first job offer? Or to get that first paycheck in tech?
It felt sooooooo goood!
What are your goals and dreams for the future? Career or otherwise.
My goal professionally is to be a data scientist in the same company I am in.
